Student will select a major they would like to pursue during their studies. In order to earn the specific job title the student must complete the coursework and pass the certifications required for the pathway. Students will select from the following pathways:
A Web Specialist is an individual who understands the basics of web site development. They will not specialize in one area but have a basic foundation of all aspects that it will take to develop a web site. They will easily be able to update and maintain web sites.
A Web Designer is an individual who is fluent in XHTML/CSS and knowledgeable about web standards and accessibility. This individual will convert the visual prototype into a web site; therefore this individual needs to be creative and have an artistic flair but also be able to understand technical specifications. Many individuals enjoy the creative aspect but it is also important to realize that designing web pages is not just a creative role; it also supports a business end, whether that is driving sales or building the company's brand. Web Designer's will create the front-end of the site, creating the look-and-feel of the site. They take the concept to reality.
A Web Developer is an individual who specializes in the back-end development of a web application. They add functionality to a web site. This individual will have experience with databases and client-side and server-side scripting languages. They will also be fluent in XHTML/CSS and knowledgeable about web standards and accessibility. This individuals needs to have the desire to make things work and have the ability to solve problems.
